I have a HP d5200t Vista 64 with Hauppauge built in dual TV tuner cards
HVR-1290 & HVR-1800. I am unable to tune HD (QAM) channels that I receive on
cable.

Window Update (current). all drivers (Current)

It always recognizes the following when I tune TV signals via the media
center via the auto tune option.
1. Cable (Analog 1 tuner) - It does not recognize the second digital input!!!
2. Satellite (1 tuner)

When I choose to configure the cards manually it recognizes the digital
tuner as ATSC and attempts to tune on channels 2.1, 4.1 etc. and gives the
error NO TV Signal on this channels. I receive the HD channels on RF 92-2,
93-4 etc from COMCAST (Nashville) - atleast thats what my tv tunes to!

When I attempt to add the channels manually using the "Add missing channels"
option via the "ADD DTV Channel" Media center does not allow me to specify
the frequency as 92-2. A value > 9 disables the "next button!!!

Any remedies/fixes available to get HD to work? or should I simply return my
new pc and forget about using windows as a media center. this is terribly
frustrating!!!!

Problem 2: The satellite channels flicker continously. How can this be avoided?

The tuner input is connected to the o/p's of the set top box.

I do not have this issue with the Cable.

Your tuner can not receive digital content output from your SAT STB . It
can only receive SD analog content using RF over coax (using channel 3 or
channel 4), or analog video over S-video from the STB.
Current releases of Media Center do not support the reception of clear QAM
digital content using digital tuners.
Even for OTA digital content Media Center only provides EPG guide support
for and only scans for the primary (XX-1) sub channel for each local
broadcaster. Other sub channels( XXx-2, XX-3, etc.) have to manually added

Thanks for the post.

I was referring to the HD channels over cable not Sat. I did actually manage
to tune these channels after much difficulty but some update killed it. Now
they just will not tune!!! System Restore did not help either!

How do you manually add xx-3 etc .. there is no option to do so! Can I add
these entries directly to some file? If so that'll help!

I should have also mentioned I do not use a STB for my cable. I get basic
cable with all the local channels in HD (ABC/NBS/CBS/Fox etc).

If you are getting all of the local networks primary digital sub-channels
over clear QAM what is your problem.

I should have added that I assume your are using the Hauppauge WintTV
application to receive the clear QAM channels and not MC.

If you have the cable from the wall connected to the digital tuner on the
cards(some times marked as ATSC) in addition to being connected to the
analog tuner on the cards you are saying that the WinTV application does not
detect any clear QAM channels?
How many local broadcaster channels do you expect to be available via Clear
QAM for your location?

I receive ABC,CBS,NBC,Fox, PBS, CW58, ION, TWC, CSPAN in HD and expect to
receive all of them. In fact there are many more digital channels that my TV
picks up. I dont really care for them ... I need just the ones I mentioned!

WinTV & MC do not pick up these channels. I had managed to tune the HD
channels for a few days before an update blew them! :( Now those channels
just do not show up!
